The Canadian National Committee of the International Dairy Federation (FIL-IDF Canada) brings together producers, processors, federal and provincial governments, regulatory agencies, universities, colleges, research institutes and private companies involved in the dairy business in Canada. It is a roundtable for dairy providing a forum for all sectors of the industry and governments to meet, discuss and develop practices, guidelines and standards that are beneficial to the Canadian dairy industry as a whole.
"Provide the best source of scientific advice, industry knowledge and regulatory expertise for the development of expert opinions and positions on issues of importance for the efficient production, processing and delivery of safe and nutritious dairy products to Canadian consumers"
FIL-IDF Canada is also responsible for the development of the National Dairy Code. It keeps the Code current through regular revisions and amendments
Canada has been a member-country of the International Dairy Federation (IDF) since 1971 and is playing a major role at the international level. IDF promotes scientific, technical and economic progress in the international dairy field through international cooperation and consultation. IDF is also the official technical adviser on dairy issues to the Codex Committee on Milk and Milk Products under the FAO Codex Alimentarius Commission. In addition, it provides advice to the World Health Organization (WHO), the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) and work cooperatively with the FAO and with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in the establishment of international laboratory standards.
FIL-IDF Canada contributes to making the Canadian dairy industry stronger by advocating and supporting the use of the highest standards of quality and best laboratory procedures and farming practices. These combined enable Canada to produce the best in dairy foods. The work of its dedicated people and the strong interaction among industry players, academics, research institutions and governments, via FIL-IDF Canada, has contributed greatly to the strength of the Canadian dairy industry.
